New wood architecture from design to building construction

The webinar analyzes technological and construction solutions for timber building. It illustrates the control and verification of construction phases through the analysis of some significant case studies at the national level.

It is organized into the following thematic sections:

  • A new technological approach to contemporary timber architecture
  • The role of detailed design in the construction of a timber building

Paolo Simeone

Paolo Simeone is an architect, expert in innovative sustainable building systems with a focus on the wood constructions, co-founder of the DUOPUU-Sustainable Architecture office, and an adjunct professor and research fellow at Politecnico di Torino, Department of Architecture and Design.

Paolo currently teaches Architectural Technology with prof. Guido Callegari in the “Final Atelier of Design” course (MSc degree program in Architecture For The Sustainability Design) and the “Off-site Architecture Design” course (MSc degree program in Architecture Construction and City). In 2018-2019 he was a professor and member in charge of the design atelier in Wood Building Architecture – II level Specializing Master’s Programme. Since 2018 Paolo has been involved in several applied research projects in the field of innovative building systems and technology integration in the building envelope; since 2022, he is a member of the research team of the Department of Architecture and Design in the European project “ARV-Climate Positive Circular Communities” – H2020 EU-funded project and in the research and innovation project “SU.PRE.MO. From SUPER X-LAM to 2D and 3D prefabrication and modularity” – funded by the Autonomous Province of Trento.

From 2005 to 2014, Paolo was a senior researcher at CNR-Ivalsa Trees and Timber Institute (now Cnr-Ibe), the largest Italian research institute in the forestwood sector, as a member of the international team of wood engineers and scientists involved in the SOFIE Project – scientific director Prof. Ing. Ario Ceccotti – experimenting and studying innovative wooden construction systems. In particular, Paolo researched prefabrication and modularity with CLT technology by designing and constructing several full-scale prototypes.

A Milanese by adoption, Paolo is also a co-founding member of the Research & Open Innovation FabLab OpenDot, a graphic designer, and an urban bicyclist.
